The IVF Process

Your IVF Treatment Near You — 6 Simple Steps

Ovarian Stimulation (Day 1-14): The process begins with the administration of hormone injections that stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. This phase typically lasts about 10-14 days, with frequent monitoring through blood tests and ultrasounds to track the growth of the follicles.
+ Egg Retrieval (Day 14-16): Once the eggs are deemed mature, they are retrieved from the ovaries using a thin needle under ultrasound guidance. This procedure is performed under sedation in a minor surgical setting.

+ Sperm collection: Involves collecting a semen sample and processing it in the lab to isolate the healthiest and most motile sperm. This ensures that only the best sperm are used to fertilize the eggs.
Fertilization (Day 16-17): The retrieved eggs are then exposed to sperm in a controlled lab environment. In some cases, a procedure called Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is used, where a single sperm is directly injected into an egg to ensure fertilization.
Embryo Culture (Day 17-21): The fertilized eggs (now embryos) are cultured in the lab for 3-5 days. During this time, they are closely monitored for quality and development.
Embryo Transfer (Day 19-23): A selected embryo, or sometimes more than one, is transferred into the woman’s uterus using a thin catheter. This step is crucial for implantation and the establishment of pregnancy.
Pregnancy Test (Day 28-35): Approximately 10-14 days after the embryo transfer, a blood test is conducted to determine if the implantation was successful and if the patient is pregnant.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about IVF & In Vitro Fertilization

IVF cost in Virginia varies by treatment plan. Base cycles typically range from $10,000–$15,000. Mini IVF protocols offer a more affordable IVF option for qualifying patients. We offer flexible IVF financial assistance, financing, and many insurance plans cover portions of the cost. Your coordinator reviews all options at your first appointment.
IVF cost with insurance depends on your specific plan. Virginia mandates some infertility coverage for many plans, and health insurance that covers IVF can significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses. We verify your benefits before your appointment and also offer in-house IVF financial assistance and payment plans.
Yes. Gender selection IVF is available through Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), which allows for family balancing and can also screen embryos for chromosomal conditions. Ask your IVF specialist about gender selection IVF near you at Procreate Virginia.
Our success rates consistently exceed national averages. For women under 35, we see live birth rates above 65% per cycle. Success varies by age and individual factors — your IVF specialist will give you personalized expectations at your consultation.
Yes — IVF with tubes tied is one of our most common procedures. Since IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes entirely, tubal ligation does not prevent IVF success. Mini IVF after tubal ligation is also an option for qualifying patients. Your IVF doctor will review your specific case at consultation.
Your first IVF appointment includes a review of your medical and fertility history, an overview of IVF treatment options (including Mini IVF and conventional IVF), initial testing discussion, and a clear explanation of IVF costs and next steps.
